We are a team deeply passionate about the work we do here. It’s not just a job for us; it’s a calling. Here in Malawi, we see firsthand the devastating impact of unequal access to healthcare and justice. Too many people, especially women and adolescents, are denied their basic human rights. They’re denied the right to quality healthcare, the right to legal recourse when their rights are violated, and the right to live healthy, fulfilling lives. That’s why VRF exists. We believe that health is a fundamental human right, not a privilege, and we’re committed to fighting for that right for every Malawian.
Malawi’s healthcare system is stretched thin, and funding is always a struggle. The vast majority of people work in the informal sector, meaning they lack access to crucial medical insurance. And the disparities in SRHR access, particularly for young women and girls, are simply unacceptable. These aren’t just statistics—they’re real lives, real families, affected by systemic injustice.
We don’t believe in band-aid solutions. We know that real change requires a comprehensive, integrated approach. At VRF, we tackle the root causes of health inequity by combining four key strategies: access to justice programs that empower individuals to claim their rights, in-depth research to inform our advocacy and drive policy change, community capacity building to empower communities to advocate for themselves, and strategic partnerships to amplify our impact and reach.
We empower individuals to claim their rights by providing legal support and guidance for SRHR violations.
We conduct in-depth research to drive policy change and advocate for improved SRHR services.
We equip communities with the knowledge and tools to advocate for their own healthcare rights.
